What's New in Version 0.8

The introduction of navigation charts and design charts marks a significant improvement in using Tree-Me. Navigation charts are standardized diagrams that help users move efficiently through the family tree, making it easy to follow relationships and explore different branches. In contrast, design charts offer customized views, allowing users to create and share visually interesting charts to share with others.

How to use the navigation charts

Navigation charts simplifies navigating around your family tree by allowing you to group families so you can jump from one family group to another.

When your tree becomes crowded and you cannot easily expand relationships without rearranging many people, you can create a new chart linked to your current one. To do this, select the person you want as the base of the new chart, then click the New Chart button. This creates a new chart with that person as its starting point and links it to your original chart for easy navigation.

For example: adding parents to Martin would require moving Authur and Jennifer to make room, so instead of clicking the expand button (circled red), click Martin to select Martin and then click ‘New Chart’ button (circled yellow)

This will create a new chart where Martin's family and easily be built and expanded.

When the family tree is created using the Navigation charts, then you can make a pretty charts to share with others

Creating Design Charts

There are 2 ways to create new design charts. 2

  • Clone the existing chart by not having any person highlighted. Clicking Add Design will convert the Navigation chart to the default design chart. The base person of the new chart will be the same as the cloned chart.
  • Select a person and then clicking Add Design will create a new chart where the selected person is the base person for that chart.
